[DON'T] MIND THE GAP (AN UPDATE ON BOOK BINDING ISSUES)
over 2 years ago – Sat, Jan 22, 2022 at 04:16:03 AM

Greetings Adventurers!

Over the past 24 hours we have been inspecting our remaining inventory of Requiem and Monsternomicon books before continuing our packing process. At this point, we have not found any instances of pages falling out the books or cracked bindings, so we are optimistic that these defects occurred only in a small number of books.

As well, we have reached out to the printer for additional information. They have sent a couple of videos to demonstrate the strength of the books as well as some additional explanation to help us understand what to look for when examining the books. We've shared these videos with you, below.

If you have received your books, or when you do, if you inspect the spine you will notice that when the book is opened, a gap appears between the bound page signatures and the cardboard outer spine. This is how the book is supposed to appear. The gap is there to allow the book to lay flat without the pages separating. The pages are not supposed to be glued to the cardboard spine. So, if by chance you saw this and found it alarming, don’t worry, it’s okay, that’s how it is meant to be. (And don’t feel bad, I’ve been publishing books for over twenty years and just learned this today!)

You may also note a mesh support strip between the cardboard spine and the bound signatures and it may appear to separate when the book is opened. However, this strip is not meant to adhere to the pages, but rather, provides a lateral support for the book casing. Sometimes it will stick to a bit of the glue in the binding process, but then will separate once the book is opened. So again, if you note a gap between the mesh strip and the pages, do not be alarmed, this is as it should be.

DON’T TRY THIS AT HOME!

Naturally, we do not recommend handling your books like a toddler, but based on the videos above, you can see how your books should perform in the event that they are handled recklessly by your dwarf barbarian player after getting eaten by a Tatzylwurm. (You know who I'm talking about.)

We hope this information and the accompanying videos help to put minds at ease. However, if you see pages slipping out or your binding cracks or splits, or you note any other clear defect in the printing or construction of your books, please contact us directly through Kickstarter and we will dispatch replacements to you right away. We apologize that some bad apples made it into the bunch, but we know they are out there and we very much want to replace them for anyone who has received a less than perfect reward.

In other news...

As of our pickup today, we have shipped approximately 50% of domestic U.S. book rewards. We’ll continue to ship the books through next week and then will move on to the non-book shipments as quickly as we can.

Thank you for your continued patience and support. Have a great weekend!

BINDING ISSUES
over 2 years ago – Fri, Jan 21, 2022 at 12:25:36 AM

Greetings Adventurers,

Rewards are finally making their way into the hands of backers. But we have received a few reports today of books with defective bindings. If your rewards do not arrive in perfect condition or any aspect of your books or otherwise appears defective, please contact us directly through Kickstarter so that we can dispatch a replacement to you.

The issue reported on Requiem and the Monsternomicon is that pages appear to be detaching from the spine of the book. Naturally, this is alarming and unexpected. We have worked with the printer that produced these books for almost two decades and have never experienced a quality issue with anything we have printed with them. However, we have reached out to the printer to alert them to the issue and as well, are investigating to see if there is just a bad batch or if the problem is the result of the long travel time in the container. We have also instructed our packing team to examine the books before packing them on all remaining packages to be sent.

In any event, should you receive a book or other reward that appears defective, we will send out a replacement as quickly as possible. It is our hope that this is not a widespread issue, but should it prove to be, whether because of manufacturing or extended transit or otherwise, we will reprint as necessary to ensure that you receive your rewards in perfect condition. Our apologies for any inconvenience caused to those who may receive less than perfect rewards.

And so continues the epic saga of the delivery of Iron Kingdoms: Requiem...

FULFILLMENT UPDATE
over 2 years ago – Sat, Jan 15, 2022 at 04:51:26 AM

Greetings Adventurers!

We have several details to update you on regarding the status of Requiem rewards fulfillment.

Australia/New Zealand — All parcels are reportedly out with couriers and should be delivering over the next week.

Canada — Damages during the freight shipment have been assessed and replacements are being sent directly to Lion Rampant immediately where they'll be repacked and on their way. Fortunately, the total number of damaged parcels was low — about a dozen — and replacing them will be quick. We will be notifying the backers whose parcels were affected, today.

UK/EU — The freight shipment was scheduled to arrive in Manchester today. We are waiting confirmation that it has arrived safely and is on its way to Spiral Galaxy.

Domestic U.S. — Our expectations that rewards would be 'flying out the door' were unfortunately dashed by the reality of the pandemic this past week, just as much of the country is currently experiencing. Domestic U.S. rewards have begun shipping, but illness has laid low a significant portion of our staff and progress has been slow. Fortunately, the team is recovering quickly and by next week we should have a large chunk of the rewards shipped. Books are going out first via media mail and will be followed up with a second parcel containing any non-book items that backers have ordered.

The epic saga of Requiem's fulfillment will soon be over. We've been through supply chain disruptions, snowstorms, damaged shipments and now plagues...someday we'll look back on it and laugh, right? Thank you for your continued patience and support. We truly appreciate it.

CANADA FULFILLMENT UPDATE
over 2 years ago – Wed, Jan 12, 2022 at 03:59:45 AM

Greetings to our Canadian backers,

We have received confirmation from Lion Rampant that the freight shipment arrived to them. They have begun the fulfillment process and will be shipping parcels over the coming week.

Unfortunately, some of the packages were damaged in transit. The damage does not appear to be widespread, but any boxes that are dented or crushed will have to be opened and inspected. If the contents are intact, they'll be repacked and shipped out. If any of the contents are damaged, they will let us know and we will immediately ship out replacements with apologies to the recipients for the further delay.

Once Lion Rampant has assessed the shipment and provided us a list of any needed replacements, we'll email any backers with parcels that have been affected to let them know.

SHIPPING UPDATE
over 2 years ago – Sat, Jan 08, 2022 at 04:24:57 AM

Greetings Adventurers!

Due to the holiday and snow days delays, we have air shipped the freight for UK and EU backers— seven pallets of rewards! The shipment has been picked up and is due in Manchester on January 14th after which it will be transported to Spiral Galaxy where the individual parcels will be dispatched to all UK and EU backers. So we're getting closer! We'll update you once the freight shipment reaches Spiral Galaxy and they begin fulfillment.

We also received word yesterday that the freight shipment to Aetherworks has arrived, so they should begin fulfillment next week for all backers in Australia and New Zealand.

That just leaves domestic U.S. orders, which will be flying out the door daily until everything is delivered. It should not be long now.

Thank you again for your patience and support through the epic journey of these rewards. And have a great weekend!
